NYC Art Trip

I love summer! It’s quiet on Sanibel, my garden is lush and green from all the rain and most importantly I get to spend time with all my artistic endeavors

In June I treated myself to a 4 day art trip to Manhattan with my artist buddy  Joan Klutch. She lives and creates her beautiful artwork in Long Island and Sanibel. We love the same art and enjoy doing artsy things together.

On our long list of place to go were the galleries in Chelsea, which is “THE gallery area in NYC”. Entering these spacious installations transformed us into distant worlds and the mind expands, such an experience!

We toured the big Art Museums: The Whitney, The Met and my favorite The Guggenheim. A big selection of Giacometti’s fabulous work was on display at the Guggy and upon close inspection I could see how he layered the canvases with countless changes to perfect his portraits and figurative work.

No trip to NYC would be complete without a visit to the theater of course.

We got to enjoy “Beautiful” the Carol King Musical. Carole King is the most successful female songwriter of the latter half of the 20th century in the USA, having written or co-written 118 pop hits on the Billboard Hot 100 between 1955 and 1999. Some of her famous songs that you might know are “Natural Woman” and “Will you still love me tomorrow”.

The 4 days flew by and I came home full of creative juices. When I don’t travel during the summer I still teach at South Seas Island Resort and keep busy with creating artwork for “Island Style Gallery” in Key West and Sanibel.

More details about that on my website
